3. If you like magazines, consider the following before you buy all those subscriptions.
a. Never buy more subscriptions than you really need or want, and cancel the subscriptions you really do not use. Most people end up with too many magazines and too little time. It may have looked like a magazine you really wanted at the time, but do you really read it? And, if after getting the first issue of your new subscription you do not want the magazine, call up and cancel your subscription for a refund.
b. If you want to continue a subscription you already have, take advantage of low renewal rates. The renewal offers will keep getting cheaper the closer the time for renewal. Wait until your subscription is almost expired before you renew. And make sure your subscription really needs renewal, and does not still have several months or even a year or more to go. Magazine companies get very aggressive and sometimes “lose track” of the length of your subscription, unless you remind them.
c. If you are considering a new subscription, do not pay the full subscription price. Most people don’t. There are always offers for discounted subscriptions included in magazines. They are probably in copies at the library, on news stands and most certainly in your friend’s copy. If your friend, or even a relative living elsewhere, has a subscription, they can probably sign you up for subscription deals they receive for signing up new customers. Tell them you are interested and ask them to look out for a good deal. Also, if you are in certain professions, ask if there are professional subscription rates, which are usually discounted. You might also look on eBay.com for discounted subscriptions.
d. Many charitable organizations, as well as Internet sites, offer subscriptions at discounted prices. Most of these subscription offers are valid, but some are not. Be careful. If you do purchase a subscription in this manner, make sure you understand the fine print on the agreement. Sometimes these subscriptions are difficult to discontinue, and get automatically renewed with automatic charges to your credit card, sometimes at higher subscription rates.
e. Try trading magazines with friends. Why should everyone have a subscription when all the magazines you like are already available in the neighborhood. Everyone can get a subscription to different magazines and share.
f. Never buy magazines at the cover price unless you just want one or two copies a year. Subscription prices are always much lower.
g. The Internet also has many online magazines, several of which are free. But even if there is a cost, sometimes an Internet subscription can be more useful than a printed magazine. For instance, Consumer Reports is online and provides you with an article data base and other advantages versus their printed magazine.
4. With the Internet, many people do not even subscribe to newspapers anymore.
Most of the content of both national and local newspapers is online free or at minimal
cost. In addition, news web sites usually cover all the news of major importance.
If you enjoy the Sunday newspaper and ads, consider getting a Sunday-
5. If you are really into books, free entertainment is available at local book clubs. Or get together a group of friends and form a book club. And don’t miss out on literary and poetry readings at local book stores and other venues for an interesting time.
Believe it or not, you do not have to rely on electronics or even a good book to
enjoy yourself. Low-

2. Consider building something for entertainment. Many projects are a reasonable cost and will add to your home.
3. How about playing board games or starting a large jig-
4. Having family and friends over for lunch and dinner can be fun and inexpensive. Have everyone bring a dish and enjoy a fun time. This can be a great way to celebrate holidays, particularly New Year’s Eve, and save a lot of money. Going out all the time is not always the best way to have fun, and it usually costs a lot more.
5. Consider having a “nothing week” when you don’t spend any money on entertainment. Don’t go out. Just stay at home and enjoy the family. It really can be done and can be very enjoyable.
6. Finally, entertain yourself by just doing nothing. Listen to the birds, enjoy the sun, look at the stars, take a walk, etc. It’s entertaining and it’s free.
Enjoy Your Family
